Pipes in History?

For some reason I was looking up the history of pipes today, and boy is it an amazing history! In particular, I figured I would share a few of them with you.

Did you know that the early Jamestown settlers were avid pipe smokers? Neither did I , but check out this article from Historic Jamestown! One point of great interest in the article is that pipemaking was considered a lower class occupation. Pipes were cheap but broke very easily!

This linked article in Science News, by Brice Bower shows evidence that tobacco was used almost 12,000 years ago. What’s even more amazing is the evidence was found in Utah!

And pipe smoking seems to have been a Colonial Preoccupation! This article shows a fragment of a colonial-era pipe. It’s history is fascinating!
